Tech Tips: What to Do with Old Home Movies
Do you have old home movies sitting around?
Good ideas here giving you options for saving those precious memories.
We all have a box or a shelf full of old video home movies somewhere. Rather than think about the valuable memories contained within the dusty VHS tapes (or film reels, photos, or DVDs), we avoid thinking about them. I have more of them sitting around than I can count and have decided it’s time to do something with them so I can revisit those special memories and even share them with other generations. I was surprised to find many options available and none of the sorting of the old tapes and photos I thought I would have to do. These companies only ask that you package the items and ship them off.
Top Three Options
The website I used for my exploration was bestconsumerinsight.com. They did all the research and wrote an article titled Top 3 VHS Tapes, Films, Videos & Photos Digitizing Services 2024.
Best Overall
Their top overall pick is iMemories (site address: getimemories.io). The article rates this company a 9.9 and gives it five stars calling it “outstanding.” A peek at the website shows that they’ve served 1 million + customers, have 15,000 five star reviews, and have been mentioned on ABC News, Fox News, and USA Today. They demonstrate that they can turn film reels, VHS tapes, and photographs into new and better digital material that can be viewed on your tablet, computer, Smart TV, and even your phone. They have 17 years experience of converting every format. They also offer 50% off for all new customers.
Second Top Company
The second top company is LegacyBox (site address: legacybox.com). This company is rated 9.3 and has four and one half stars calling it “excellent.” It appears that they do almost everything iMemories does, except that the article claims they’re expensive and says there isn’t a free repair service. This company also has been featured in many places including The Today Show, Forbes, and Reader’s Digest. They sell their services by the kit so you could convert 20 things for one price or 50 things for another price. They too, are offering 50% off for a limited time.
Final Recommended Pick
The third company reviewed by the article is ScanMyPhotosDigital (site address: scanmyphotos.com). This company is rated 8.8 and has four stars which makes it “great.” The article warns that their main business is photo scanning but upon visiting the site, it seems they do everything the other two sites do. The other point against them is that the article claims “their simple packaging does not have a good guarantee.” Visiting the site did not bring up any discounts.
