Forgotten Nebraska History - Sheridan County, June 1908
On a lonely stretch of railroad, a thunderstorm rolls, bringing pouring rain, pelting hail, and dangerous lightning.
A culvert, not strong enough for the impact of the storm, washes away, carrying the railroad tracks with it.
A freight train, chugging through, picks up speed as it rolls downhill, slamming into dirt, rock, and a hillside that has never been there before.
Train cars splinter. Tracks twist and gnarl together. Water torrents cover desolate ground.
Upon impact, the engineer, Russell Alpin, flies through the cab window, leaving behind a couple severed fingers.
Jack Murray, a loner who has snuck onto the train, wakes as his head smashes between boxes inside a train car. Sliding open the door, he hears screams from men trapped inside the train. He jumps down into frigid water up to his chest.
Sludging to the front of the train, he finds Russell bobbing up and down in the water, in shock.
Everyone’s recovering, but the train wreck is only the beginning: Jack - a man who has nothing left to lose, Russell - who isn’t sure the world will ever make sense again after losing those closest to him, and Doc Hanover - the one who can cure - hides a secret that could lead to his death.
The lives of the surviving men become intertwined as they try to figure out how to move on, even after being Wrecked.

Writing a novel for the first time came with all kinds of learning - including how to create a website (still learning). Here’s a peek at stuff and struggles you never think about when writing a book.
